eGPX Post Graduate e-Governance program for executives
A joint offering from TAPMI and NISG
National Institute for Smart Government, Hyderabad [NISG] and T.A.Pai Management Institute, Manipal [TAPMI] are pleased to announce the launch of a pioneering Executive, Post Graduate Diploma program on e-Governance. The course is intended to hone skills of the participants and imbue in them a strategic orientation combined with industry preparedness to manage large scale transformation projects to which genre e-Governance belongs.

This program is the result of coming together, for the first time, of thought leaders from the Government, Industry and the Academia all sharing a vision for a transformed level of service, transparency and efficiency. eGPX has been in the press and other media during the past several weeks and is attracting significant amount of interest from the Industry and various Government ministries.

NISG and TAPMI
Genesis of the course
eGPX has been conceptualised by NISG. Prof.Subhash Bhatnagar of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, an internationally renowned expert on e-Governance, is the Chief Advisor to the program. To quote Prof Bhatnagar "eGPX was born out of a collective concern about the lack of adequate capacity to conceptualise and implement e-Government projects within the public and private sector organisations involved in the rollout of the National e-Governance Plan [NeGP]" .
NISG is a not-for-profit company with NASSCOM, Department of IT, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Department of Administrative Reforms&Public Grievances, Government of India, and Government of Andhra Pradesh as its initial promoters. NISG is being shaped as an institute of Excellence in the areas of e-Governance. In the words of Mr.J.Satyanarayana, IAS, the CEO of NISG, "NISG aims to bridge the existing gap in the availability of skilled professionals in the e-Governance space through the eGPX program".
TAPMI celebrates its silver jubilee in 2008 and is ranked among the top b-schools in India. TAPMI was founded by Late Shri T.A.Pai, an eminent banker and an able administrator credited with bringing in reforms in the Railways, Civil Supplies, Heavy Industries, Steel and Mines when he held various ministerial portfolios. In keeping with Shri T.A.Pai's vision, TAPMI has been at the forefront of offering advanced management programs that embrace national interest in addition to furthering the cause of the private sector. Need of the Hour - program on e-Governance
Leading IT companies, Multinational Consultants and Governments are all gearing up for increased level of activities in the e-Governance space This is not merely a development in India. Even globally, e-Governance practices are expected to gain prominence.
NISG estimates that the shortage of experts in the field of e-Governance exceeds 2,000 per year in India alone. The Government of India too gives highest priority to capacity building and has the Cabinet approval for the Capacity Building Scheme that enables Government agencies to hire e-Government experts from open
market at market salaries.
The eGPX course is expected to play a significant role in helping the Industry, Academia and the Government to bridge this widening gap.
Salient Features of eGPX
eGPX is structured as a One year, Full-Time, Residential program [at TAPMI, Manipal]. Faculty from NISG, IIM Ahmedabad, Industry and Government will join hands with Senior Faculty from TAPMI in designing and delivering the eGPX courses.
The Program is divided in three terms with approximately 26 weeks of Foundation and Elective courses and about 20 weeks of Study Tour and Internship. The courses are divided into three streams - e-Governance concepts, Management and Public Administration and Technology.
Eligibility and Admission Criteria
Since the program is preparing participants for conceptualising and managing large scale transformations -which require leadership abilities and visionary skills - it is aimed at middle and senior level executives.
Eligibility: A Bachelor's degree in any discipline with minimum of 50% aggregate marks
Professional experience: A minimum of five years of managerial/administrative experience
Number of Seats: Forty
Shortlisting Process: Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their past academic performance, nature and years of experience and the quality of essays submitted as part of the application.
Selection process: The final selection will be based on scores obtained during shortlisting process, Group Discussion and Panel interviews.
Commencement of the course: January 2009
