CSI Nihilent e-Governance Awards 2010-11
A Brief Report

The Ninth CSI Nihilent e-Governance Awards function was organized as part of the e-Governance track of the 46th CSI Annual convention held at the AMA Campus in Ahmedabad, on 2nd Dec 2011. The full day track had engaging sessions that included presentations by selected CSI-Nihilent e-Governance (2010-11) award winners. All these sessions were well attended with active interactions. Most of the presentations were delivered by Senior level IAS officers from States. Some of the sessions by Winning nominees are: ICT in the Chief Minister’s office in the State of Gujarat delivered by Dr Hiren Joshi, OSD in the office of the Gujarat Chief Minister, ePass project by Mr Raymond Peter, IAS and Principal Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Govt of AP, Census 2011 Project by Mr Manish Chawla, IAS Regional Director, Gujarat Census, Nanded District presentation by Dr Shrikar Pardeshi, IAS, District Collector etc. The sessions started with the release of ‘Awards Booklet’ by Shri Robin Rastogi of Nihilent Technologies.

The track also had one absorbing panel discussion on ‘e-Governance implementation issues’. The panel consisted of Mr Mahesh Chandra, Dy Director General, NIC, Mr Raymond Peter, IAS, Principal Secretary, Govt of AP, Mr Chandu Mukkavali, Director Deloitte Consulting and Dr Maj Genel (Retd.) R K Bagga, who also chaired the session.
The highlight of the track is the Awards ceremony held in the evening where in CSI-Nihilent e-Governance awards for the year 2010-11 were presented to 19 winners. Padmu Bhushan Dr V Rajaraman, CSI Lifetime Achievement Awardee 2011 was the chief guest, who also presented the awards along with Mr M K Agarwal, President CSI in the presence of other SIG dignitaries on the dais. As every year, a book titled ‘Widening e-Governance Canvas-Slected eGovernance Initiatives’, primarily a compendium of selected nominations along with invited papers edited by Shri Surendra Kapoor, Shri Prabhu Gollamudi and Dr Nityesh Bhatt was formally released by the President CSI on the occasion.
Fellow Dr R K Bagga, and Chair of SIG e-Gov, coordinated the session along with the Conveners Mr Surendra Kapoort with assistance from Mr Harish Iyer, Co-conveners Mr GSN Prabhu and Dr Nityesh Bhatt. The Chief guest praised the SIG efforts in sustaining the Awards and motivating e-Governance initiatives in the Country. Mr M K Agarwal President CSI averred that these awards have become a brand by itself and stake holder participation is very encouraging. He desired that the collaboration with Nihilent Technologies continue for many more years for the good of promoting e-Governance. Mr Robin Rastogi representing the Award sponsors reiterated with pride their association with CSI SIG and congratulated all the winners for their achievement.
Award of Excellence in State Category was presented to Chhattisgarh, District Category to Nanded District, Maharashtra, Department Category to CMO Office, Gujarat, Projects G2G Category to Maharashtra Plan Schemes MIS, Projects G2C Category to ePass Project of Department of Tribal Welfare, Govt of AP, Projects G2B Category to e-Governance for Mineral Administration of the Mining & Geology Department of Govt of Gujarat. A Special Award was given to ePanjeeyan project of Assam. Three National level projects were recognized with Special Recognition Award–Census2011, Project Vaahan of Department of Transport and Highways and National Portal-GoI The event also saw a new award of Sustenance with three projects (CSI Nihilent Award winners of the year 2006) getting recognized with Award of Appreciation- e-Dhara now called eJamien of Gujarat Government, Bhoomi and Bangalore One Project both of Government of Karnataka. For the first time ‘Finalists’ who could not move up into the awards list were individually presented ‘Award of Commendation’, subsequently. Mr Surendra Kapoor, Convener while thanking the support of the Government officials who attended in large numbers informed that the awards are stepping into a decade of celebration next year i.e 2011-12 and hoped there will be bigger enthusiasm and participation.
